What will we be learning today?

  • In this lesson, we are going to study for the Unit 4 Exam.

  • Reproduction - the process in which organisms produce more of their own kind

  • Asexual Reproduction - the production of a new organism from one parent

  • Sexual Reproduction - the production of a new organism from two parents

  • Sperm - a male sex cell

  • Egg - a female sex cell

  • Meiosis - the division of the nucleus resulting in sex cells with half as many chromosomes as in body cells

  • Fertilization - the joining of the male sex cell and female sex cell into one cell

  • Zygote - a fertilized egg

  • Inherited Traits - a characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring

  • Heredity - the passing of inherited traits from parents to offspring

  • Generation - parents and offspring; parents are on generation, their offspring another

  • Genetics - the study of how heredity works.

  • Dominant Trait - a form of a trait that appears in the hybrid generation

  • Recessive Trait - a form of a trait that is hidden, or masked, in the hybrid generation

  • Ratio - a mathematical term that describes the relationship between two quantities

  • Punnett Square - a table for predicting the outcome of crossing different forms of a trait

  • Pedigree - a chart used to trace the history of traits in a family

  • Carriers - an individual who has inherited a factor for a trait but does not show the trait

  • Genes - a portion of a chromosome that controls a particular inherited trait

  • DNA - along, complex molecule that contains the codes that control your cells' activities, your chemical makeup, and heredity

  • Selective Breeding - the process of crossing plants or animals to produce offspring with certain desirable traits

  • Let's Review What We Learned Today!
