Organisms Interact
What will we be learning today?

  • In this lesson, we are going to learn all about how organisms interact.

How Do Organisms Interact?

  • How do organisms manage to live together in a given environment? In any environment there are many kinds of organisms using the same space and raw materials. All the organisms of the same kind living in a particular place make up a population. The size of the population and its location may be large or small. .

  • For example, a group of billions of bacterial cells found in a single puddle and hundreds of giraffe roaming an African grassland may both be populations.

  • The members of a population often live and interact with each other. However, different populations also interact with each other. All the populations living together in the same place make up a community.

For example, grasses and shrubs are among the populations of a grassland community. Other populations, such as mice, rabbits, and grasshoppers, eat plant populations for food. Eagles and foxes are populations that eat other animals on a grassland.
