Fossil Fuels Used to Make Electricity
What will we be learning today?
How Can Fossil Fuels Be Used to Make Electricity?
Fossil fuels are really a form of solar energy. They contain chemical energy that was originally light from the Sun used by ancient plants for growth. Fossil fuels are composed mainly of carbon and hydrogen. When they are burned, they combine with oxygen in the air to make water, carbon dioxide, and heat. Study the diagram on the next slide to see how this heat is used to make electricity that is sent to homes, offices, and factories.
