Spelling Patterns
What will we be learning today?


  • In this lesson, we are going to learn about spelling patterns.


Follow these directions:


  • Get a sheet of notebook paper.

  • Fold the paper in half the long way.

  • Put your name at the top.

  • Label the top of the first column rain.

  • Label the top of the second column cane.


  • Say these two words.

  • Do they rhyme? YES

  • Are all rhyming words spelled the same? NO

  • That is exactly what you are going to learn about in this lesson.

  • Even though words rhyme, they don't always have the same spelling pattern

  • These words rhyme. Say them again.

  • Are they spelled the same? NO

  • -AIN and -ANE sound the same when you say them in a word.

  • The only way to know which way to spell these words is to know how to spell the word like you know how to spell cat, dad, tree, and many more words.
