What will we be learning today?
In this lesson, we are going to learn all about the writing process.
The vocabulary word is process.
What are these words?
process : a number of steps when followed produces a product.
You are going to be learning the steps in the writing process. Today you will get an overview.
You will see all of the steps at one time. We will break down the process and go step by step later.
Did you know there are steps to being a good writer? There are five of them.
Can you guess what they are?
The first step is called Pre-writing.
Pre-writing includes the steps that you take to think about what you are going to write.
What can some of those thingsbe?
Here are some ideas.
Make a web. Make a list. Draw a picture.
After you finish prewriting, you will write your first draft.
Using the words from the words and ideas from your prewriting, you begin to write.
Don't worry at all about spelling, periods and things.
A draft simply means that you are going to get all of your thoughts on paper.
You are thinking about the ways that you want it to sound and ways that you want to organize your work
| Once you finish your first draft, you will read what you wrote. This is called revising.
While you are reading it you will ask yourself some questions.
What can I do to make it sound more interesting?
1. Are there words that I could change to make what I wrote sound better?
2. If I change the order of some sentences or ideas would it sound better?
3. Did I leave anything out?
After you have finished revisingyour work, it is time to go back and look for
mistakes you might have made. This is step number 4 and it is called editing.
Are all of your sentences complete?
1. Did you spell everything correctly?
2. Did you use periods, question marks and exclamation points the right way?
3. Did you capitalize the beginning of sentences and people's names?
This is the final step in the writing process. It is step number 5 and it is called publishing.
That just means you are working on your final copy. It is the copy you send to a teacher, or post on a wall. It is the copy that has everything fixed and looks really nice.It is the copy that you want to show off!
Let's Review What We Learned Today!
