Reading and Writing Rocks Yellow / Lesson 7: Graphic Organizers

Graphic Organizers
What will we be learning today?

  • In this lesson, we are going to learn all about graphic organizers.
  • The vocabulary word is graphic organizer.

Can you think of ways you organize your thoughts before you begin to write?

  • We will begin today's lesson, by learning some ways to get organized.

What is this word?

  • Graphic organizer: A way to record your thoughts, a way to brainstorm, a way to put things into categories.

  • Look at this chart. It is a graphic organizer. Can you tell how the words are organized? What titles would you put in the empty boxes?

  • Did you come up with the same words?
Doing an organizer like this could help you write 4 different paragraphs about different kinds of animals.

Let's Review What We Learned Today!

  • You are going to create your own web. Get a sheet of notebook paper. Start with the topic of favorite music. Then create four squares, each with a musical group or singer's name. Write 3 characteristics or facts about each of the groups.

Before you fill in your web, use the web link in your classroom to read more about graphic organizers.
