What will we be learning today?

  • In this lesson, we are going to review for the Unit 4 Exam.

  • Sound - making something move back and forth

  • Vibration - a back-and-forth motion

  • Matter - anything that has mass and takes up space

  • Molecules - a particle that contains more than one atom joined together

  • Sound Wave - a vibration that spreads away from a vibrating object

  • Pitch - how high or low a sound is

  • Oscilloscope - devise that makes a picture of sound waves. Allows you to compare the waves of sounds that have different pitches

  • Frequency - the number of times an object vibrates per second

  • Hertz - a unit for measuring frequency. One hertz equals a frequency of one vibration per second

  • Ultrasonic - said of a sound with a frequency too high to be heard by humans

  • Volume - a measure of how much space an object takes up and the loudness or softness of a sound

  • Decibels - a unit that measures loudness

  • Decibel Meter - the instruments that measures volume

  • Reflection - the bouncing of a sound wave off a surface

  • Absorption - the disappearance of a sound wave into a surface

  • Echo - a reflected sound wave

  • Echolocation - finding an object by using reflected sound

  • Doppler Effect - the change in frequency (and pitch) as a source of sound moves toward or away from you
