Hyperbole


  • Hyperbole is EXTREME exaggeration, or stretching of the truth.

    The purpose of hyperbole is to create a picture in the reader's mind.

    1  The picture usually funny.
    2  The picture is one that is impossible and could never happen in real life.


Characters


  • Characters in tall tales are different than characters in other kinds of stories.


  • 1  The way they act is very exaggerated.
    2  The things they do are very exaggerated.

  • These exaggerations are used to paint a clear picture of the qualities the people who created the stories admired most.

    4  Thoughtfulness
    5  Intelligence
    6  Ability to solve problems or get out of trouble.


Setting


  • Setting is the time and place of the action of the story.
  • Setting is VERY important in tall tales.
  • It helps to show things that happened to people who lived and worked in a certain region at a certain time.
