7th Grade Math / Lesson 5: Drawing Nets

What will we be learning in this lesson?

  • In this lesson, you will learn about nets.

  • A net is something that can be cut and folded to create a 3-dimensional figure.
  • Below is a picture of a net. If you were to cut this out and fold it, it would create a cube.

  • Remember a cube is a 3-dimensional object with squares on all sides.
  • When working with nets, keep in mind the number of sides that the object has. How many sides does a cube have?

  • Some nets won't fold correctly to form an actual object.
  • The net below is one of them. The two pieces sticking out would overlap each other when this net gets folded.

  • Can you identify nets that form objects?
